This shirt is from Woot.
This shirt sold something like three shirts on it’s first day at Woot. And lucky us, we ordered one!
It reminds us a lot of Sendak’s “Where the Wild Things Are.”
Where you afraid of monsters in your closet? Or were you intrigued by them?
For some reason, as a kid, I firmly believed that if we left my grandparents’ house to drive home at night, Dracula was following us, ready to suck my blood. I have no idea where I got this impression from, and it lasted for many years in my psyche. I always tried to get my parents to leave early, but they have always been very good at chatting.
My brother never seemed to be afraid in the same ways. He seemed fearless. Whether it was trying a new sport, a new instrument, or a new form of art, he has always jumped in with both feet. I investigate the area first, research, then maybe dip a toe in. I am not a natural leader. While I prefer to follow my own path, I often want to fill the gap where the leaders and the followers meet. I want to be the glue that holds things together. This is not always possible. And that is a hard lesson to learn, my friends. I want a direct route to the solution, and life doesn’t work this way.
The title of the shirt is “The Shortcut” and in respect to our lives this week, we took one ourselves.
We got a new dog.
She will have a grand unveiling on another night.
The shortcut in our grieving process for Daisy is positive. No dog can replace her. Our sorrow is not gone. But, we feel hopeful and renewed. We can celebrate our new Dogter, giving ourselves a chance to smile and laugh again. Our sadness will be there, lurking with Dracula.
